Permaculture Design

We recognize that just as nature grows and changes over time, so do we. Our permaculture design goes beyond ecosystem regeneration toward a heartfelt reunion with the earth.
Waterwise Planning
In the Mediterranean climate of the Pacific Northwest, water can be our greatest challenge and our greatest asset, so it is essential to plan for it wisely. Our ecological landscape designs incorporate effective stormwater management and drainage for excesses and where water is scarce we capture, convey, and conserve it. We specialize in drought-tolerant, climate-ready plantings that look stunning and can even produce food.
Expert Horticulture
It is no secret that landscape architecture and horticulture have grown apart. We're here to reunite them! While it is vital to have a solid foundation to your landscape, the plantings give it a face and a voice. We plan each landscape to minimize external inputs like water, fertilizer, pesticides, and maintenance labor. As nature changes, we make sure to plan for succession, and lay out a roadmap for three, five, and ten years into the future.
Contouring & Grading
Based on precise altimeter data for relative elevations and levels across the site, we develop topographical layout plans that integrate with the rest of the planning process. Finely attuned contouring and grading is critical for managing stormwater on site, accurately estimating quantities of hardscape materials, and crafting a three-dimensional space that provides comfort, accessibility, and inspiration to all.

Environmentally Critical Area (ECA) Permitting
For properties that include or are adjacent to wetlands, streams, shorelines, landslide or erosion hazards, or other types of Environmentally Critical Area (ECA), it may be necessary to obtain specialized permits to guide design and authorize construction. This may also include consultation with third-party geotechnical or wetland specialists, structural engineers, civil engineers, or more. We can help you navigate that process and develop the necessary documentation to proceed to construction.
