Our Philosophy

We design landscapes and culture that connect people to nature. Our mission is to care for people and care for the earth at the same time, with one harmonious landscape. These are core principles of permaculture and our north star for design.
We thrive at the intersection of design, ecology, and small-scale agriculture where landscapes integrate the needs of humans and nature alike. Our work incorporates hard science, intelligent planning, and artistic finesse -- we rely on brainpower and elbow-grease, but most importantly we put our hearts into each and every project.
When we follow nature’s lead and work with natural patterns and energy, the natural abundance of the earth can emerge and miraculous connections happen.
In our relationships, we seek mutually beneficial and reciprocal exchange. We support and practice deep listening and non-violent, compassionate communication and we honor diversity. We believe that people and landscapes will evolve over time, and we would like to maintain good relationships with you as they do.
Our permaculture design goes beyond ecosystem regeneration toward a heartfelt reunion of people and land.

Hi, I'm Will Rak
Licensed Landscape Architect
Certified Professional Horticulturist
I am a landscape architect and permaculture designer based in Seattle, WA. I earned my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Michigan in Philosophy and Comparative Religion, after which I spent a decade building a career in marketing. After years of home gardening and extensive volunteering, I returned to school to pursue a vocation in restoring the environment.

At Edmonds College I earned two degrees in Landscape Design and Ecological Restoration as well as a certificate in Urban Agriculture Systems. I earned certifications in Permaculture Design and Advanced Permaculture Design at the Bullocks' Farm on Orcas Island. I also earned certifications as a Certified Professional Horticulturist, Certified EcoPRO, Master Composter, Master Pruner, and Master Fruit Tree Steward. I specialize in sustainable, ecologically restorative, and food-producing outdoor environments.
In tandem with my professional work, I have been volunteering extensively with the internationally renowned Beacon Food Forest community garden project for the past nine years. I served for four years as President of the Board of Directors for BFF and continue to serve on the board to this day. I am a passionate horticulturalist whose mission it is to leave this world better than I found it, and to eat delicious food along the way. My personal obsession is hot peppers, which I lovingly craft into my own hot sauce!
In my pastime I am an avid hiker on long journeys out in the wilderness. It is here that I derive both spiritual grounding and inspiration for how to better design in harmony with the patterns of nature.
Looking forward to meeting you!
